Is she dying? She sounds like she is, like she's very sure she'll be dead soon.
Bluh, this reminds me of two characters of mine. ;; They aren't married, because she has cancer and won't let him marry a dying woman. So "Will you throw away the ring" sounds terribly sad from my point of view.
